New treatment at Bluffton Hospital helps to prevent esophageal cancer

Bluffton Hospital is offering a new outpatient treatment that destroys pre-cancerous tissue in the lining of the esophagus.

The procedure, called endoscopic radiofrequency ablation therapy using the HALO System, was recently featured in the New England Journal of Medicine as a highly effective treatment for eradication of Barrett’s esophagus, a pre-cancerous condition that affects one to two million adults in the United States each year.

Don't miss Saturday activities at Swiss Homestead during Fall Festival

The annual Fall Festival at the Homestead will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. by the Swiss Community Historical Society of Bluffton and Pandora.  The Schumacher Homestead is located at 8350 Bixel Road between Bluffton and Pandora, and the event is free and open to the public.

Volleyball: ONU wins this one

The Bluffton University volleyball was looking to avenge its recent loss to local rival Ohio Northern when the Beavers invaded the King Horn Center on Wednesday, Sept. 25, but ONU had none of it as the home team made quick work of the Beavers, wrapping up its second three-set victory over Bluffton in five days. Ohio Northern improved to 10-6 following the win, while Bluffton slipped to 7-10 with a fourth setback in its last five matches.

Quilt show on Saturday

Bluffton Scrap Artists will host a quilt show on Saturday during the Bluffton Fall Festival. The show, in the Bluffton Elementary multi-purpose roomis from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no admission charge. Here is an enlargement from a quilt exhibited in a previous show. 

Antique tractor show, kiddie tractor pull and lots more at Maple Crest on Saturday

If you love antique farm tractors, you won't want to miss Saturday's fourth annual Maple Crest antique tractor show. The event is part of the Bluffton Fall Festival. The show is held at 700 Maple Crest Court, Bluffton.
