Ah, shopping for Christmas in downtown Lima circa 1957

No question about it.

My memories of the best Christmas ever come in a package wrapped from stores located in the Lima square.

I know. It's sounds impossible to viewers born after Neil A. walked on the moon; but it's true.

There was nothing...nothing like going to Lima and shopping downtown for Christmas. Picture this: Somewhere on South Main there was Porter's Music Store. You could actually select a 33 1/3 rpm album, enter a listening booth and listen to the album in privacy. That way you'd know if you wanted to buy it or pass.

When did you move to Bluffton? Was that difficult for you or were you so young you don't remember much about that?

I moved to Bluffton around age 4 from Columbus and then Ada within a year. From what I remember it was exciting, especially the whole living on a farm thing.

When did you graduate from high school?

I graduated from high school in 2008.

Who was your favorite teacher? Why? Favorite course in high school? What activities were you involved in during middle and high school?

Bluffton card decks: this year's hottest item almost sold out

"Two cards, please dealer."

The hottest Christmas item in Bluffton this year is selling so quickly that less than 40 remain for sale.

The item: Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce card decks. The 52-piece ensemble sells for only $5. They are available while supplies last...and we emphasis "while they last."

The card decks were the idea of Melinda Bowden of PromoHits! That Main Street business sold sponsorships to Bluffton businesses to be on the cards. PromoHits! had the card decks printed and gave about 350 sets to the chamber as a fund raiser.

Photo contact sheets and life

By Tanya Pike

One of my responsibilities when I worked at the Bluffton News was to develop the black and white film that the editor shot every week. That was back in the days before digital cameras were the photographer's tools of choice. After winding the film into the canisters in total darkness, the process of developing each roll took about 30 minutes.

It was always a somewhat stressful half hour for me.
