John Veland Bucher 1927-2011

John Veland Bucher

John Veland Bucher, 84, of Findlay and formerly of Pandora died Monday morning, March 28, 2011, at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. He was born Jan. 7, 1927, near Columbus Grove on Bucher Road to Ezra E. and Elvina Hilty Bucher. On June 21, 1947, he married Thelma Pearl Bridenbaugh, his wife of 63 years and she survives.

Mr. Bucher graduated from Columbus Grove High School and farmed on Road 4 near Pandora for 50 years. He served as a Riley Township Trustee for 16 years. He served in the Marines during WWII and was a life member of Pandora American Legion Post 616.

Bluffton schools accepting applications for open enrollment for 2011-12

The Bluffton Exempted Village School District is currently accepting applications from students interested in attending the school district through open enrollment for the 2011-2012 school year.

Students from any school district in Ohio may apply and enroll in Bluffton Schools tuition free. Students are admitted on a full-time basis only.

Applications are approved annually on a first-come, first-served basis and approval is subject to grade level enrollment and educational programs.

Jenera Lutheran teams successful in Lutheran elementary tournaments

The 2011 basketball season ended for Trinity Lutheran School, Jenera, with participation in the area Lutheran Elementary School Tournament at Huron Valley Lutheran High School in Westland, Michigan.

The boys' team won the consolation game and the girls' team won the championship. Named to the Girls' All Tournament Team were eighth graders Anna Curth and Megan Ritter.

44 teams compete in two BFR March basketball tournaments

Twenty-eight teams participated in the 16th annual Boy's Basketball Tournament hosted by BFR Sports & Fitness the weekend of March 5-6.

Winners were: Wapakoneta Redskins 4th Grade, Upper Sandusky Rams 5th Grade and Arlington Red Devils 6th grade.

Schools represented in the tournament included: Ada, Allen East, Arlington, Bath, Bethel, Bluffton, Columbus Grove, Elida, Findlay, Liberty Benton, McComb, Ottawa, Pandora-Gilboa, Riverdale, Spencerville, St. Anthony, St. Charles, Upper Sandusky, Waynesfield and Wapakoneta.

Mt. St. Joseph stops Beavers twice (baseball)

The Bluffton University baseball team fell twice to Mount St. Joseph, 6-0 and 14-3, on Saturday, March 26, in Heartland Conference action. The Beavers slipped to 7-10 on the season and 0-3 in the HCAC, while MSJ improved to a perfect 3-0 in the HCAC and 10-7 overall.
