It must belong to Karim Awad

It belongs to Karim Award

We spied this plate in front of the Award residence on Dec. 26. Knowing that Karim lives in Connecticut, we naturally figured it's his. To get the full impact of this plate, read the "61 minutes with Ben Luginbuhl."

61 minutes with Ben Luginbuhl; and don't believe a word of it

Ben standing in front of the '94 Dodge

By Fred Steiner

11:11 a.m. on the CNB clock. Dec. 26, 2009.

Ben Luginbuhl, always man-about-town in Bluffton, now of Portland, Ore., gets at the wheel of his parent's 1994 Dodge Caravan with 198,500 miles logged on it. There was a half tank of gas, peanuts on the floor mat and two cups of Common Grounds coffee to go in the cup holders.

He's in town for a few days and wants to get caught up on the slander and libel of the place. I want to cruise in the Caravan. It's an even trade.

He asks me if I've ever bagged it. I say, "No. What is it."

Icon recipe of the day

You won't believe how great this pie tastes and how easy it is to make. Plus, all the ingredients are already in your kitchen. There's a warning at the bottom of the recipe.

1 cup applesauce

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 t salt

1/4 t cinnamon

1/4 t nutmeg

2 Tbs margarine

1 egg and 2 egg whites (well beaten, of course)

2 cups milk

Rind of one lemon - finely chopped

Going to the dogs

Our house is (literally) going to the dogs. At the moment, one tiny Schnauzer is curled up in what he thinks is his chair -- the recliner -- pretending to be asleep because he thinks he's so cute that no one will bother him. He's right. He's cute.

In the living room, Harvey, a large black lab-dachschund-Bassett hound blend has taken over the couch. One sleepy eye opens slowly whenever someone approaches. He too is convinced that he so cute no one would dream of making him share his perch. He too is probably correct in his assumptions.

Ah, shopping for Christmas in downtown Lima circa 1957

No question about it.

My memories of the best Christmas ever come in a package wrapped from stores located in the Lima square.

I know. It's sounds impossible to viewers born after Neil A. walked on the moon; but it's true.

There was nothing...nothing like going to Lima and shopping downtown for Christmas. Picture this: Somewhere on South Main there was Porter's Music Store. You could actually select a 33 1/3 rpm album, enter a listening booth and listen to the album in privacy. That way you'd know if you wanted to buy it or pass.
