Bluffton Farmers Market vendor of the week

Hot or cold, rain or shine - Bluffton Farmers Market is the place to be on Saturday mornings in town. According to the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, our town "boasts the best farmers market in northwest Ohio." 

In celebration of our small but mighty farmers market, the Icon will be featuring a market vendor each week over the course of the summer.

This week's feature vendor is Chris Freed.

Quilt raffle to raise funds for Swiss homestead

Saturday during Fall Festival

Bluffton Scrap Artist Quilt club are selling raffle tickets for a quilt Saturday, Sept. 28, as part of Fall Festival activities. All proceeds from the quilt raffle will go to the Swiss Community Historical Society and Homestead, 8350 Bixel Road. 

The quilt was made and donated by Lin Rumer, Bluffton, and is a combination of pinks and whites. 

Raffle tickets cost $1 or 6 tickets for $5. Tickets can be purchased at the Schumacher Homestead on Saturday.  The drawing will be at 3 p.m. You do not need to be present to win.

Pirate girls sweep Bearcats

SPENCERVILLE - Visiting Bluffton swept Spencerville in three sets in a Northwest Conference volleyball match Thursday night.

The 25-20, 25-15, 25-23 win upped the Lady Pirate record to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in NWC play. Last-place Spencerville fell to 5-10 overall and 0-5 in the NWC with the defeat.

Sophomore standout Kylie Stackhouse led the Pirates with 23 kills and 13 digs. Junior Taylor Schwab contributed 16 kills and five aces.

Bluffton boys 3rd in golf sectionals

Drew Wilson leads Pirates with 18-hole score of 44-40=84

ARLINGTON - The Bluffton boys golf team made it to districts by finishing third in the 13-team Div. III sectional tournament at Arlington's Sycamore Springs Golf Course Thursday.

By finishing in the top three, the Pirate boys qualified to district play next week. The top three teams and top three individuals not from qualifying teams will compete at the DIv. III districts October 3.

Van Buren won the sectional event with 349 strokes, followed closely by Allen East (350) and Bluffton (357).

Beaver volleyball squad slugs it out with Denison

The Bluffton University volleyball team slugged it out with Denison in a four-set thriller on Sept. 24.. Three sets were decided by two points apiece as the Big Red moved to 9-5 following their hard-fought victory (29-27, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23).

Junior Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) hammered away with a career-high 23 kills against just six errors for a red-hot .298 hitting percentage. Sarah Heydinger (Tiro/Buckeye Valley) was just one kill away from her career best with 13 putaways. Sophomore Cassidy Posey (Paulding) was in on four blocks.
