Nelda Bridgeman owned a rare book store and search service for over 45 years

She had over 42,000 books when she retired at age 82

Nelda Bridgeman, 86, of Pandora and formerly of Hilliard, Ohio, died on June 2, 2020, at the Hilty Memorial Home in Pandora. She was born on Aug. 6, 1933, in Plymouth, England, to the late William Alfred and Winifred Louise Nelda (Beswetherick) Bridgeman.  On Oct. 31, 1959, she married Stanley Goddard and they were divorced.

Connie Burke 1946-2020

Connie A. (Obenour) Betz Burke, 73, diedat 5:05 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2020, at the Hilty Memorial Home in Pandora, Ohio.

Connie was born on June 22,, 1946, in Bluffton, Ohio, to the late Paul and Sarah (Swauger) Obenour.  She married James Patrick Burke of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and he preceded her in death.  Connie enjoyed needlepoint, crafts, flower arranging and traveling.  She worked in meat processing and was a meat cutter during her life.  Connie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ft. Wayne and enjoyed helping others.

Peaceful and silent

A peaceful crowd of 400 or more walked silently through the village on Monday, remembering the live of George Floyd and others African Americans were killed in the United States as a result of racial injustice. Finishing on Main Street, several residents told their stories of of being a non-white in Bluffton. Others read names of African Americans recently killed in this country. CLICK HERE for a video. Lola Leiber was a Bluffton school bus driver for 35 years

Was past president of the Bluffton Athletic Boosters

Lola Marlene Leiber, 82, died June 1, 2020 at her residence. Lola was born March 5, 1938, in Leipsic to the late Sylvester and Florence (Leatherman) Dangler. On March 9, 1956, she married Donald Leiber who preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 2002.

Love of language leads BHS grad to Harvard

Danielle Novak hopes to focus on linguistics research, perhaps specifically in neurolinguistics, exploring the relationship between language and the brain

As a Bluffton seventh grader Danielle Novak’s understanding of the English language was obvious. 

She won the middle school spelling bee by correctly spelling “palliative,” which knocked out her final competitor.

“I really like learning languages,” says the 2020 Bluffton High School graduate.

This fall she will focus on linguistics, the scientific study of language.
