Grob Systems and Pandora-Gilboa schools form partnership

Ralf Bronnenmeier, chief executive officer, and Darrin Lanasky, manager, of Grob Systems,  Bluffton, presented Pandora-Gilboa High School’s engineering program with a $1,000 donation on April 30. 

The annual donation allows P-G’s engineering program to purchase supplies and materials to enhance student learning opportunities. The partnership formed in the fall when five students - in the photo - went to Grob seeking aid in purchasing a CNC mill for a new course.

Rick Skilliter: "Gun shots" were fireworks shot off last night

Were you awakened last night between 2 and 2:30 a.m. to what may have sounded like guns firing?

No such thing.

Rick Skillier, Bluffton police chief, informed the Icon this morning that several residents called the department about hearing "gun shots" in the early morning hours.

Skillier said that what residents heard were fireworks being shot off in the area of Bluffton University.

"There was no public safety hazard to the noises reported last night," Skilliter said. "Residents heard fireworks being shot off."

Pink, red and white for one night

The "pink, red and white" Bluffton High School fast pitch softball team took the field Wednesday for a good cause. Bluffton and its opponent, Elida, had pink incorporated with their uniforms to make a statement for Breast Cancer Awareness. Bluffton won the hard fought game 5-3. BFR summer membership special: four months for the price of three

Beginning May 1 and continuing through August 30, BFR Sports and Fitness is offering four months of membership for the cost of three from May 1 to Aug. 30, according to Carole Enneking, director. 

Individuals (14 years of age or older) will receive full membership benefits with this special. The price of $89.67 includes access to the fitness center, indoor track, discounts on class and training fees plus open recreation hours.

A busy Bluffton weekend in store - here's university May Day - commencement events

It will be a busy week in Bluffton: the opening of the farmers' market, Bluffton Sportsmen's Club trout derby and...Bluffton University May Day and commencement.

Bluffton University will mark its annual May Day weekend May 1-4 with traditional alumni reunions, student activities and graduation events, as well as a “faculty showcase” in Musselman Library.
