Bluffton voters polling location moved to The Centre

For Tuesday's Ohio primary election

Bluffton and Richland Township voters have one issue on the Tuesday, May 4, primary ballot.

The issue is a renewal tax levy for Allen County Children Services. The renewal is a 0.5 mill levy and covers a five-year period beginning this year.

Village of Bluffton voters have a new voting location, which is The Centre at 601 N. Main St. Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This was at one time Bluffton's largest employer

When this photo was taken, the Triplett Corp. was Bluffton's largest employer. Here are two photos of the plant located along Harmon Road, which is today owned by Diamond Manufacturing.

Several sections, including the front office no long exists.

The aeral view was taken in 1936. A closer look above the treetops reveals the English Lutheran church steeple and the Bluffton elementary belfry. The large smokestack in the center of the skyline in the 1911 Bluffton High School building,

Forgotten Bluffton: What's the story of the Bluffton hospital?

Its founding goes back more than 110 years

Today, we take for granted that Bluffton has a hospital. Not every rural community, however, has one. What is the story behind how the hospital came into existence?

That story follows:

In February 1908 a stock company, incorporated for $20,000, was organized in Bluffton for the purpose of established a local sanitarium.

The home of Dr. J.J. Sutter, remodeled the previous year, was chosen for the sanitarium.

It was located on the northeastern corner of East College Avenue and Main Street, today the site of the Bluffton Public Library.
