Free health events continue this week at BFR

The fifth week of BFR’s Keeping Active Wellness Campaign will include several different programs in addition to the free walking days, free fitness classes and recreation options.

Eight restaurants compete in Feb. 19 Maple Crest soup cook-off

Maple Crest Senior Living Village, Bluffton, hosts a soup cook-off on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and the public is invited. 

The event is in the Patio room in the lower level of the Maple Crest main building. there everyone can sample gourmet soups prepared by various local restaurants and caterers.

Spring intramural league for soccer players 4-6 starts soon

Soccer players who are ages 4-6 years are invited to register for the spring intramural league. 

The U6 program is a skill development program that includes drills and scrimmage play. To be eligible for the league, boys and girls must have been under the age of 6 as of Aug. 1, 2014, and have turned 4 by Dec. 1, 2014. 

The BFR U6 league includes Tuesday and Thursday sessions (6-7 PM) starting April 7 and ending May 7.

BFR to offer pre-season baseball and softball training

Area youth ages 10 and older are invited to participate in new training programs provided by BFR Sports & Fitness. The Thursday after-school programs will include fundamental drills to improve batting and fielding.

Lincoln Highway Assn. meets Feb. 17 in Van Wert

The Western Ohio Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association will hold its February meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m.

Members and guests are invited to dine at The Orchard Tree, 1058 W. Main St., Van Wert. Following dinner, a short business meeting will take place.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., members and guests will tour the Van Wert County Courthouse at 121 E. Main Street in downtown Van Wert. Built in 1876, the Second Empire structure was the first Van Wert County location recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The public is invited.
