Community Assistance Program has 16 families to "adopt for Christmas"

The Bluffton Community Assistance program invites area residents to adopt a family during the Christmas season.

According to Jami Crawfis: "We have a total of 53 families this year who are signed up and we still have 16 to adopt out. The date of distribution is Saturday, Dec. 21."

Helen McOwen had retired as bookkeeper at Steinman Brothers Lumber Co.

Helen L. McOwen, 91, of Pandora died at 7:40 a.m. Nov. 20, 2013, at the Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. She was born Nov. 6, 1922 in Putnam County to Clarence and Edith Thomas Hofferbert. On Dec. 26, 1944 she married Roger McOwen and he preceded her in death on November 28, 1982.

She had been a bookkeeper at Steinman Brothers Lumber Company in Bluffton.  She was a member of the Pandora United Methodist, the Gideon's Auxiliary and the Asi No Mas Club of Pandora.  She was a graduate of Vaughnsville High School and attended Northwest Business College, Lima.

Old Millstream Bell Choir Ensemble performs Dec. 1 at St. John's UCC

The Old Millstream Bell Choir Ensemble from Findlay will present a Christmas concert at St. John's United Church, 223 W. College Ave., Bluffton in December.

The ensemble will perform in concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 1, according to Rev. Carol Clements, pastor.

The concert is open to the public.

Chris Driesbauch performs Nov. 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jenera

Chris Driesbach, Christian musician will present a song service at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera on Sunday, Nov. 24. He will perform during the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services.

Driesbach will also present a concert of his songs between services at 9:20 a.m.

 “This is a musical worship service celebrating Creation” he says. “It will feature five hymns and seven of my original songs along with lots of Bible readings and I think it’s kind of special.”

Riley Creek United Methodist's 42nd annual Christmas carol sing Dec. 1

Riley Creek United Methodist Church invites the community to its 42nd annual Christmas Carol Sing on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m. 

Like an old-fashioned songfest around the piano, the program will feature congregational singing of many traditional carols, as well as readings from Scripture about Jesus’ birth, special performances by the Pandora United Methodist and Ottawa Sts. Peter and Paul choirs, and a candle lighting ceremony.
