"Deck the Halls," and decorate your float for the Nov. 30 Blaze parade - it's not too soon to start planning

No, it's not too early.

Have you decided on a float idea or parade entry for the Saturday, Nov. 30, Blaze of Lights parade? This year's theme is "Deck the Halls."

This year's parade forms at 4 p.m. on Nov. 30 on Snider Road near the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool. The parade starts at 5 p.m. The route is from Snider Road, south on Main Street to East College Avenue. There it turns and proceeds to Triplett Drive where is concludes.

The parade is just one of several events planned for this year's Blaze. More details on other Blaze events are on the way.

BFR Sports and Fitness offers "new hire" introductory membership

BFR Sports and Fitness now offers a "new hire" introductory membership, according to Carole Enneking, director.

The offer includes a free one month membership to anyone newly hired by a Bluffton-area business.

"The hope is to encourage new workers to try out our facility and fitness programs, and to be encouraged to be more active," she said.

Stop and smell the petunias

Two movies this week at Shannon Theatre

Starting Friday, August 23 and playing through Thursday, August 29 will be both "Turbo"(PG) and "The Heat"(R).

The animated "Turbo" will play every evening at 7 p.m. as well as Saturday and Sunday matinees at 1:30  p.m. and 4 p.m.

"The Heat" will show every evening at 9:30 p.m.

Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn flavor of the month for August is Ragin' Cajun.

Art gallery season to open

“You Have Not Seen: Roots and Wings,” an installation of art by Christa Reuel, will open the 2013-14 schedule in Bluffton University’s Grace Albrecht Gallery, located in the Sauder Visual Arts Center.

Opening Aug. 26, the exhibit is free and open to the public through Sept. 22, when a reception will be held for Reuel from 2-4 p.m. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
