Pirate boys soccer blanks Kenton

BLUFFTON __ The Bluffton High School boys soccer team scored a pair of goals early in the second half to defeat visiting Kenton 2-0 in a non-league match on Thursday evening, September 12, at Steinmetz Field.

The Pirate record improved to 3-6 with the victory. The Wildcats fell to 3-3-2 after the shutout loss.

The game was scoreless at halftime. Bluffton’s Chase Kelly then broke the ice with a goal in the 44th minute on an assist by Jackson Brauen.

We will remind you again later, but here's the news: Beginning Nov. 1, Rumpke Waste & Recycling will launch a new acceptable item for recycling—clamshell plastic containers. Starting November 1, 2024, Bluffton residents may add clamshells to their recycling carts. This includes clear plastic carry-out containers, clear plastic fruit, berry and lettuce containers and clear plastic egg containers. Current guidelines are HERE.

Letter: Thoughts about my old neighbor, Bob Wilch

We didn’t know how lucky we were.

No. In my adolescent years, the kids in my Lawn Avenue-Elm Street neighborhood did not know how lucky we were. That’s because Bob Wilch, an adult, but a kid at heart, lived in our neighborhood.

Trust me, he was the friendliest adult to kids – outside of our parents – who you could imagine. I thought about him recently when I read his obituary on The Icon.

‘Bonhoeffer: Cell 92’ coming to Bluffton University

“Bonhoeffer: Cell 92,” a cinematic theatre production created by Jerry Holsopple and Justin Poole from Eastern Mennonite University, comes to Bluffton University at on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27.

Bluffton to hold State of the University Forum

11:00 a.m. on September 24, Yoder Recital Hall

Dr. Jane Wood, president of Bluffton University, and Dr. Katherine Fell, president of University of Findlay, will present the State of the University Forum on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

During the presentation, Dr. Wood and Dr. Fell will address the state of the university in the context of the proposed merger of Bluffton University and University of Findlay.

Bluffton Council recap for September 9

Rooster nuisances did not return to Bluffton Council discussions at the regular meeting of September 9. Topics addressed included the most recent draft of proposed Accessory Dwelling Unit zoning, the opportunity to fill in gaps during the fall tree planting program and ways to better utilize Bluffton Airport.
