Pirate boys soccer blanks Spartans

LIMA __ The visiting Bluffton High School boys soccer team shut out Lima Senior 4-0 in a non-conference match Thursday evening, September 19, at Spartan Stadium.

Pirate Gavin Amstutz scored two goals to pace the offense to victory. Levi Antrim contributed a goal and one assist to the winning effort.

The Pirate record improved to 5-6 overall with the road victory. Lima Senior fell to 3-3-1 after the defeat.

Bluffton led 2-0 at halftime and tallied two more scores after intermission to win going away.

BLUFFTON __ Tournament host Bluffton High School won the seven-team Northwest Conference boys golf championship on Thursday, September 19 at the Bluffton Golf Club.

The top finish gave the Pirates their league-best 17th title overall, and their first NWC links crown since 2019. Bluffton’s Drew Wilson was tournament medalist five years ago at Tamarac Golf Course.

Perry Bush reflects on Bluffton University at 125 years

Dr. Perry Bush, emeritus professor of history at Bluffton University, will present the Colloquium, “Is the Kobzar still dancing?” at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 4, in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall. 

During the presentation, Bush will expand on his book “Dancing with the Kobzar,” published in 2000 to commemorate Bluffton’s 100-year anniversary. Bush will reflect on Bluffton University’s historic 125 years. This event kicks off Homecoming and Alumni Weekend which will celebrate Bluffton University’s 125 years. 

This event is free and open to the public.

BPL returns to Holiday Gift Silent Auction mode

Bluffton Public Library is bringing back its annual Holiday Gift Silent Auction, to be held from November 1 through November 27. Community interest has prompted the library to revive the fundraiser and the staff "are happy to make this event available in Bluffton once again!"

Pauline Dreitzler was a bookkeeper

UPDATED September 19.

Pauline (Scheib) Dreitzler, age 82, died at 9:33 a.m. on September 16, 2024, at Lima Memorial Hospital.

Polly was born on November 22, 1941, in Maryland, to Robert Charles and Marion (Way) Scheib who preceded her in death.  

Polly graduated from Piqua High School, and moved to New York City, where she spent ten years studying voice and sacred classical music, while serving as a nanny to a wonderful family.

Hillville Rd. closure on Sept. 20

The Allen County Engineer's Office has announced that Hillville Rd. between Bentley and Tom Fett Roads, will be closed on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for asphalt paving.

Emergency vehicles will have access.
