Unbeaten Pirate football cruises by Bearcats

BLUFFTON __ The Bluffton football team drubbed visiting Spencerville 55-7 in a Northwest Conference mismatch on Friday night, September 20, at Harmon Field.

Bluffton raced to a 48-0 halftime lead and cruised to victory.

The defending league co-champion Pirates improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the NWC with the lopsided win.

Meanwhile, the Bearcats fell to 3-2 and 0-2 in the NWC after the loss. 

Bluffton scored 27 points in the first period and tallied 21 in the second stanza to put the game out of reach early.

Pirate Fenzl 10th at Van Wert cross country meet

VAN WERT __The Bluffton High School cross country teams competed at the Van Wert Hospital Ohio Health Invitational meet on Saturday, September 21.

Host Van Wert won the meet with 47 points. Lincolnview finished second (90), followed by Crestview (98).

The Pirate boys finished 10th out of 14 teams with 311 points. The Pirate girls came in ninth out of 13 squads with 243 points. 

Owen Scott of meet host Van Wert won the boys race in a time of 15:44.5.

O-G’s Anna Buddelmeyer won the 112-runner girls race in 18:49 2.

Elegies of Unreast at Grace Albrecht Gallery

The Sauder Visual Arts Center Grace Albrecht Gallery is currently exhibiting work by Justin Johnson, who explains, “My subject matter comes from news feeds and photographic sources from the front lines. I have distilled these compositions to their most simple forms… They are lamentations that describe tragedy through abstraction.” The exhibit runs through October 5 when a closing reception will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Pirate volleyball sweeps Carey

CAREY __ The visiting Bluffton Pirate volleyball team beat solid non-conference foe Carey in straight sets on Saturday, September 21.

The Pirates improved their record to a sparkling 13-2 with the 25-20, 25-21, 25-12 road sweep. Bluffton has won 12 of its last 13 matches.

Carey fell to 9-4 overall after the defeat.  

Karlie Lora led the Pirates with 11 kills. She also came up with 11 digs and dealt a pair of aces.

Kendall Stackhouse and Ayla Grandey each hammered nine kills.

Bluffton chamber coordinates downtown Scarecrow Decorating Contest

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses to decorate the Bluffton downtown area with a scarecrow theme beginning the first week of October. The powerful color punch of petunias in pots and on lamp posts vanish at the end of September and provides a new opportunity for the community to decorate.

The same applies to the business community, legislators, and the general public, as pain is a serious public health issue.
