University art department holds annual pottery competition

Open to high school students on Saturday

The Bluffton University ceramics class is hosting a pottery competition for interested high school students on Saturday, Nov. 23.

The event is for students both advanced and novice and is designed to help build their skill set or introduce them to the clay arts. Bluffton University students will help coach novice students on their own non-competitive clay projects like introducing them to the potter’s wheel and various hand building techniques while more advanced students will engage in a series of “games.” 

Bluffton alum has third piece accepted in Chicken Soup for the Soul books

Christina Ryan Claypool has also authored a book on forgiveness

Christina Ryan Claypool, 1982 Bluffton University alumnae, recently had her third writing contribution accepted in Chicken Soup for the Soul books. Her most recent, Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Forgiveness Fix, was released on Nov. 5.

She speaks highly of her experience at Bluffton: “I had so many incredible instructors during my time at Bluffton who were role models. At that point in my life I lacked self-confidence, but it was empowering to have the support of dedicated educators like Linda Suter and Lawrence Templin.

University holiday concert Sunday afternoon

Bluffton University will host the Holiday Collage Concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Get wrapped up in the sounds of the season when Bluffton’s Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, University Chorale and Camerata Singers come together to celebrate Christmas.

Conducted by Dr. Roy Couch, the Concert Band portion of the evening will include “Carol of the Drum,” “Christmas Pipes,” and “A Christmas Spectacular,” a medley of favorites.

Chamber thanks Southgate Lanes for hosting trivia night and much more

In October, Southgate Lanes hosted a Trivia Night and Wine Tasting event to benefit the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce. That makes us the most recent beneficiary of the bowling alley's generosity, which includes their Summerfest fundraisers for a variety of local organizations.

Olivet falls to Bluffton women 62-59

The Bluffton University women's basketball team traveled to Olivet College for a Saturday afternoon matchup on Nov. 16, 2019. The Beavers secured a 62-59 victory over the Comets thanks to a 6-0 jag over the final 42 seconds. Bluffton stays perfect at 2-0 following the victory.

Have you checked your blood pressure lately?

Ohio Northern University’s HealthWise Pharmacy offers free blood pressure checks this month as the pharmacy has a special focus in November on hypertension.

For a free blood pressure check, stop in at the pharmacy, 511 W. Lincoln Ave, Ada, (Raabe College of Pharmacy building). There’s free parking at the door of the pharmacy.

Pharmacy hours are Mondays through Fridays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and now open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
