Second shut-out in a row for Bluffton women's soccer

The Bluffton University women's soccer team ejoyed its second consecutive shutout in a 3-0 victory over rival Defiance College in the Heartland Conference opener for both teams. The Beavers improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC, while Defiance fell to 2-5 on the season. It is the first time Bluffton has posted consecutive shutouts since 2013 when the Beavers routed Andrews and Ohio Christian.

Bluffton HS golf team qualifies for districts; Lovett 2nd

The Bluffton High School golf team finished a strong third out of 13 teams in the Div. III golf sectionals at Sycamore Springs Golf Course Thursday, September 30, to qualify for districts.

Allen East won the sectional crown with a team score of 337. Van Buren was second (341) and Bluffton third (346).

The top three teams and three individuals not on a qualifying team made it to the Div. III district event at Stone Ridge October 7.

Defiance bests men's soccer, 2-1

The Bluffton University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Defiance College on a sunny Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021. The Jackets netted a goal in each half as they improved to 6-6 overall and 1-0 following the Heartland Conference opener. Bluffton slipped to 4-3 and 0-1 in the HCAC.

Edwin Quintana found the upper right corner from 30 yards out in minute 22, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead on Wednesday. When Defiance was whistled for a foul in the box 16 minutes later, penalty kick specialist Maxwell Kennedy (Strongsville) did his thing, knotting the score at 1-1.

Pirate volleyball team swept by Vikings

The visiting Bluffton volleyball team lost a three-setter at state-ranked Leipsic in a Northwest Conference match Tuesday evening.

The Lady Pirate record fell to 10-6 overall and 2-2 this season with the 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 defeat.

Fifth-ranked Leipsic improved to 14-1 overall and 5-1 in the NWC with the victory.

Senior Kylie Stackhouse led Bluffton with 11 kills. Freshman Ayla Grandey knocked down seven kills and made two blocks.

Senior setter Skyler Scoles dished out 14 assists and mustered up five digs.

Bluffton boys down Ada kickers

The Ada boys soccer team lost at home 8-2 to state-ranked Northwest Conference rival Bluffton Tuesday night, September 28, at War Memorial Stadium.

The Bulldogs dropped to 3-5-3 overall and 0-2-1 in NWC play with the defeat. The Pirates, 10th in the Div. III state rankings, improved to 8-2 and 3-0 in the NWC with the win.

The six-time defending NWC champion Pirates have won 33 league matches in a row.

Tynor Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Week

Bluffton University senior Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) has been named the Heartland Conference men's soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Taynor netted three of Bluffton's four goals last week. He scored the only Beaver goal in a 4-1 loss at Wooster on Tuesday and followed that up with two of Bluffton's tallies in a 3-1 win at Moody Bible on Saturday in Chicago. The talented forward finished the week with six points on eight shots and is currently the Heartland Conference leader with nine goals this season.
