W. Coleen Marquart worked for Western Southern Life Insurance

W. Coleen Marquart, age 91, passed away on October 11, 2024 at her residence. 

Coleen was born in Findlay, Ohio on November 7, 1932 to the late Sylvester and Florence (Leatherman) Dangler.

Coleen had multiple careers in her lifetime. Working with her husband, Ivan, they manufactured RVs under the Marvella and Revella names. She managed the Scot’s Inn restaurant in Lima for several years. Coleen retired from a very successful career with Western Southern Life Insurance Company where she won numerous awards and formed many enduring friendships.

Jason Cox is Bluffton’s new Good Neighbor

On October 1, Jason Cox became the new Bluffton State Farm Agent following Ed Reichenbach’s retirement. Reichenbach had been Bluffton’s first and only State Farm Agent, starting out of a home office on Mound Street in 1966.  

The new agency will remain at the 341 S. Main location in Bluffton. Staffers Lori Loewen, Office Manager, and Kathie Amstutz, Customer Service Manager, will both be staying on with the new agency.

Pirate boys soccer beats Kalida in regular season finale

KALIDA – The visiting Bluffton High School boys soccer team scored late to beat non-league rival Kalida 2-1 Thursday night, October 10, in their regular season finale.

Jackson Brauen broke up a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 70th minute to provide the game-winner. Ethan Blount assisted on the tie-breaking goal. 

The Pirate record improved to 9-8 overall after the road victory. Kalida dropped to 9-4-2 after the defeat.

Pirate girls soccer shut out by unbeaten Celtics

BLUFFTON _ The Bluffton High School girls soccer team lost 6-0 to visiting big school power Dublin Jerome on Thursday, October 10, in the regular season finale at Steinmetz Field.  

The Pirate record dropped to 10-5-1 after the non-conference defeat. 

The Celtics improved to 13-0-3 with the victory.

Ella Sobczak scored first in the 31st minute for Jerome to break up a scoreless tie. Natalie Hoovert netted their second goal two minutes later.

Pirate volleyball takes down Knights

BLUFFTON __ The Bluffton Pirate volleyball team beat tough non-conference rival Van Buren in four sets Thursday night, October 10, to celebrate Senior Night in winning fashion.

The Pirates finished the regular season 19-3 overall after completing the 25-21, 25-10, 20-25, 25-16 victory. It was the 18th win in 20 matches for the Bluffton spikers. 

VB dropped to 16-6 with the defeat.

Kendall Stackhouse hammered 17 kills to pace the Pirate hitting attack.
