Bob Painter, who for the past 15 years has served as assistant director of the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, is retiring, according to Tonya Meyer, director.
The Center will recognize Painter for his years at the center with a retirement party from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 27. The party, open to the public, takes place at the Senior Center, 132 N. Main St.
Bluffton University has named Logan Wells as head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach. Wells comes to Bluffton with two years of collegiate coaching experience at Hanover College and Otterbein University. He also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Federal Hocking High School in Stewart, Ohio.
The Bluffton University track and field team kicked off the 2018-19 season with several great performances at the Tiffin Alumni Open on Saturday, Dec. 1.
Starting on the ladies side, junior Tori Bowen (Wapakoneta/Elida) began her conference title defense in the pole vault with a second-place finish at the season-opener, clearing 3.42 meters.
The ONU Astronomy Club, Ada, hosts a "Comet Wirtanen" event from 8 to 10 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, in the ONU Observatory, according to Dr. Jason Pinkney, manager of the observatory.
"We have been clouded out on previous events, but the current forecast for Friday suggests less than 40% cloud cover – we may be able to get a glimpse of the brightest comet of 2018," he said.
The comet is making a great appearance because it will be passing so close to the Earth (12 million km, or about 1/13 of the distance to the Sun).
The future plans of Et Cetera Shop will be revealed at the Friday, Dec. 14, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast, according to Paula Scott, chamber CEO.
"Learn about Et Cetera Shop plans and progress on their move from their South Main Street shop to the Boss Glove Factory building on North Main Street. Manager Chrissy Lugibihl will also provide background on the non-profit thrift shop," said Scott.
