First Mennonite Church children and youth Christmas program is at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15. The musical "The Surprising Christmas Pageant," will be presented. Children from nursery through senior high are involved in staging the production.

The service is in the church sanctuary.

 

 

The Gomer Congregational Church will host this month’s Lincoln Highway Association Western Ohio Chapter meeting. 

The meeting is at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the church, 7350 Gomer Road, Gomer, one block south of the Lincoln Highway.

After attendees order dinner individually from Uncle Al's menu, there will be a presentation about Admiral Byrd's Snow Cruiser that crashed through a bridge in Gomer in 1939.  After the presentation, members will visit the Gomer Welsh Community Museum.  The public is invited.

 

Due to Bluffton schools being cancelled on Monday, Dec. 9, the elementary Christmas program planned for that date is rescheduled for Monday, Dec. 16. The concert is in the Bluffton High School gym and begins at 1:30 p.m.

The last day of school in 2013 is Friday, Dec. 20. School reopens on Jan. 6, 2014. Here is the January elementary school calendar.

Hey, kids! Remember to write your letter to Santa Claus and drop it off in the special mail box in the Bluffton Post Office. The Icon will post your letter and an elf from the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center will send you a response (if you provide a name and a return address).

Jerrod Amstutz, Ohio Northern University student, mixes his university major and minor in a creative way.

As a religion major and theatre minor, the 2009 Bluffton High School grad this year is student coordinator of  “Ada Friends.” The program matches Ada kindergarteners through eighth graders with a college student mentor.

The mix for Amstutz includes working with the Ada Friends program through the ONU Religious Life staff and adding a little theatrics, just to make the job interesting.

Bluffton downtown merchants drew the second of three round of winners in this fall’s 3/50 Project drawing.
