Women can learn about tools for better living on Saturday, April 6, when Bluffton University’s Women’s Council hosts the fourth annual R&R for Women conference.

Bluffton alumnae and a current student will be among the presenters during the conference, titled “Staying Strong: What’s in your toolbox?” Hours are 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Centennial Hall—site of the morning sessions—and the new Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education, where the afternoon session will be held. Lunch will be in Marbeck Center.

The Ohio Northern University Department of English presents  Bluffton author Tobias S. Buckell in the Wishing Well at the McIntosh Center on Thursday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. The Caribbean-born, New York Times best-selling author will read from his eco-thriller “Arctic Rising.”

The event is free and open to the public.

Buckell’s work has been translated into 16 different languages. He has published some 50 short stories in various magazines and anthologies and has been nominated for the Hugo, Nebula, Prometheus and Campbell awards.

Gretchen O. Lehman, 91, of Pandora, died at 7:50 pm March 8, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.  She was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Berne, Indiana, to the late B. Franklin and Nan Marie (Eckrote) Sprunger. On June 28, 1942 she married Richard B. Lehman and he died June 19, 1991.

Mrs. Lehman was a homemaker and had also worked as a cook at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. She was a member of the Pandora Missionary Church, the International Missionary Women, and was a charter member of Asi-No-Mas Club. She volunteered at Et Cetera Shop, Bluffton, and Hilty Memorial Home. 

 

Amy Yochum was recently appointed as Vice President/Director of Treasury Management of Citizens National Bank.

Yochum moved to Treasury Management from customer service in 2008 and assists in the development of products, services and programs designed to attract new commercial loan and deposit customers in the community.

With Dennis Gallant, Bluffton council president, assuming the role of Bluffton mayor, Gallant's council seat is now vacant. Council has 30 days from March 1 to name a successor to Gallant. If the council seat remains vacant in 30 day the mayor may make the appointment.

The Bluffton University Beavers faced off with perennial powerhouse Heidelberg University in the Snowbird Baseball Classic on Saturday, March 9, taking a 2-1 lead into the eighth inning before eventually falling 7-2 to the Student Princes.

A two-run eighth and four-run ninth inning handed Bluffton just its third loss of the young season, giving the Beavers a tough end to what was a successful Florida trip.
