The Bluffton University baseball team fell twice to Mount St. Joseph, 6-0 and 14-3, on Saturday, March 26, in Heartland Conference action. The Beavers slipped to 7-10 on the season and 0-3 in the HCAC, while MSJ improved to a perfect 3-0 in the HCAC and 10-7 overall.
Banjo and guitar player and singer Matt Brown will perform in concert at 7 p.m., Friday, April 1, in the third floor of the Bluffton town hall in the Town Hall Concert Series, according to Wendy Chappell-Dick, of the village cultural affairs committee.
Opening for Brown are the Bluffton High School Fiddlers, an after- school club.
The performance is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted.
Jesse Henry and the Royal Tycoons will perform in the back room at Tu Pueblo Mexican Restaurant, 142 N. Main St., at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 2.
The largely original compositions are a stylistic mixture of blues, jazz, jug band, and folk performed with vibraphone, guitars, saxophone, harmonica, drums and more.
This group debuted at the 2009 Columbus Community Festival (ComFest) where they generated crowd enthusiasm the stage manager claimed to have never seen in the 20 years she had been managing the stage.
The Bluffton fifth grade quiz bowl team recently won the Allen County fifth grade quiz bowl tournament. Members of the team (not in standing order) are: Brayton Businger, Braden Conrad, Christian Groman, Christopher Harnish, Nate Staley, Nate Reynolds, Will Grace, Conor Greer, Karis Wilson and Sydney Hoff. Holly Bertka is the team coach.
Elizabeth Fischbach, Bluffton High School senior, was named the February student of the month at BHS.
She is member of Math Club, Latin Club, National Honor Society, BHS jazz band, pep band, concert band and marching band. She is also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church SNLY.
Elizabeth is in 4-H when she has served as a camp counselor, junior fair board and 4-H council youth representative. She has served as a camp counselor in Operation: Military Kids. In the past 10 years she has received 14 first place ribbons for projects in 4-H.
