On Wednesday afternoon you could still smell the smoke from the Lincoln Highway. The day before, neighboring community, Ada, lost one of its structural gems to fire - its First United Methodist Church, at the north end of Ada's Main Street business district.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Children from a Head Start day care center, housed in the church, escaped without injury.

Main Street, Ada, which is also State Route 235, is closed within a block of the church and traffic is rerouted around Ada.

The race is on

Bluffton Middle School track hopeful start on a run around the block on Tuesday after school. All Blufton spring sports team are in full practice.

Elaine Harris will receive the Bluffton Lions Club Citizen of the Year award for 2011 during a 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, dinner meeting at Maple Crest Senior Living Community, Bluffton.

Harris and her husband, Bob, own Twin Lakes Campground, 3506 Township Road 34, Bluffton. Harris is a vice-president of the Bluffton Lions Club, is on the board of the Bluffton Lions Foundation and chairs of the club's pancake breakfast and chicken barbecue.

In addition to her role in the Bluffton Lions, she is active in many other Bluffton organizations.

Bluffton council released the wording of the one-quarter percent income tax for town hall renovations that was repeated on Monday. Bluffton voters approved the tax on March 6 for capital improvements. That tax will replace the town hall tax when it expires Dec. 31.

Town and Country Flowers, 121 S. Main St., Bluffton, celebrates its 30th year in business with a spring open house in each of its five locations, including Bluffton.

Hour are:
o Thursday, March 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
o Friday, March 16, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
o Saturday, March 17, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
