Ohio Means Jobs program, Dough Hook Meat Market breakfast

At the January 14 Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce meeting, board treasurer Tony Pinks served as emcee and welcomed new member Jazzercize Bluffton, a franchise owned by Chase Eikenbary. (See Bluffton Jazzercize relocation to BFR.) The meeting also included chamber business, breakfast served by the Dough Hook Meat Market and a program by Ohio Means Jobs Allen County.

We've probably all driven down Tom Fett Rd. Have you ever wondered who Tom was? The Icon wonders why this road includes a first name and not just a last name, like so many others. The answer to the first question is provided by BlufftonForever.com, which provides this introduction to the topic:

Many country roads in Richland Township have familiar local family names. These include Augsburger, Bixel, Bentley, Grismore, Huber, Lugabill, Phillips, Shifferly, Snider and Zurflugh. One township road with two names, Tom Fett Road, is also among those. This "pillar of light" was seen by area residents on January 10 and beautifully photographed by P. Rae Staton on SR 235 between Bluffton and Ada. The phenomenon occurs when light at ground level is refracted by ice crystals suspended in the air. Cold, still conditions are required.

The West Central Ohio Land Conservancy (WCOLC) is in the process of selecting interested landowners who meet the qualifications for the Local Agricultural Easement Purchase Program (LAEPP) in Allen County from January 3rd-February 18, 2022. Interested agricultural landowners are encouraged to call or email WCOLC ([email protected]) for additional information. 

Thaddeus Mittendorf, a Bradley student majoring in Accounting from Bluffton, OH, has been named to the Fall 2021 Dean's List. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must achieve a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the semester on a 4.0 scale.

Bradley University is a private university in Peoria, Illinois, with some 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

The Bluffton Senior Center community meal on Thursday, January 20 will be drive-thru only. 

The meal will be potato and bacon soup, crackers, roll, fruit cup and cookie. 

Service will start at 6 p.m. Please enter the alley behind the center (132 N. Main St.) on the Family Dollar side and exit on the Town Hall side.
