Former BHS star athlete will compete in men's 400 hurdles

A little more than a week ago, Ashland University senior and former Bluffton High School athlete Trevor Bassitt couldn't go in any preliminary of the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships due to injury.
 
Bassitt rallied enough physically to help the Eagle men tie for fourth place nationally as a team, and anchor the winning 4x400-meter relay at Grand Valley State prior to Memorial Day.
 

D3football.com inaugural first team honorees

The awards are still rolling in for a pair of Bluffton University football players who became the inaugural First Team All-America honorees in Bluffton football history when D3football.com announced its award winners on June 21.

Racking up the highest honors possible following a unique season that saw the Beavers play seven of their eight games during the spring, senior Darian Greeley (Belleville, Mich./Chippewa Valley) and freshman Montez Archer Jr. (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) were two of three Heartland Conference football players to earn First Team All-America honors.

The race, to take place in Eugene, Oregon, will be aired June 24 at 7 p.m. PST (10 p.m. EST) on NBC

FROM ADA ICON - Icon viewers can watch Ohio Northern University alumna and assistant coach Emily Richards compete for membership on the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team this Thursday.

Richards will be competing at the 2021 United States Olympic Trials in the 800-meter run’s first round. The race, to take place in Eugene, Oregon, will be aired June 24 at 7 p.m. PST (10 p.m. EST) on NBC.

The Bluffton Presbyterian Church, 112 N .Main St., will dedicate its new gazebo in anoon ceremony on Saturday, June 26.

A Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting and concert by the Dave Sycks Bluffton Brass Quintet are part of the ceremonies.

The 20-by-20-foot structure closely resembles the gazebo or band box that was built on the church lawn in the late 1890s. The new gazebo has been funded by a bequest from church members Bob and Mary Barnett.
