Friday, Feb. 4, is Healthy Heart Day. BFR Sports and Fitness, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton, has free walking that day.

"If you come out and walk and wear red you will receive a prize," said Carole Enneking, BFR director.

The HeartCare Center at Blanchard Valley Hospital (BVH), Findlay, has received a 5-star rating for coronary interventional procedures from independent national ratings agency HealthGrades. A 5-star quality rating indicates that the HeartCare Center at Blanchard Valley Hospital has clinical performance that is better than expected when opening blocked arteries in the heart.

The recognition is based on the Thirteenth Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America study, which analyzes patient outcomes at virtually all of the nation's hospitals.

Weather in the Northeast has forced the cancellation of New York City artist Andre' Martinez Reed's visit to Bluffton University, which included two public events scheduled for Friday, Jan. 28.

The Bluffton University women's basketball team hosted The College of Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, January 26 in Founders Hall. The Beavers made their mark on the scoreboard quickly, parlaying a13-0 start into a 41-25 advantage at the break. The Lions found their offensive rhythm in the second half, but the comeback was too late as Bluffton held on for the 87-78 victory. The win moves the Beavers to 8-10 overall, including a 5-6 record in the Heartland Conference. The Lions fell to 4-13 and 4-7 in the HCAC.

The Bluffton University men's basketball team came from behind in the second half to pick up an 85-73 win over Heartland Conference rival Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, January 26. The Beavers improved their record to 13-5 overall and 6-5 in the Heartland Conference. The Lions slipped to 3-15 overall and 1-10 in HCAC play.

Save your Saturday night, Jan. 29, for some sugar and sweets at Bluffton Elementary School. The PTO is hosting Bakery Bingo. This event is open to the public; anyone can come from 6-8 p.m. and satisfy their cravings.

For a chance to win cakes, cookies and candies, just purchase a pack of Bingo cards at the door and play! One pack costs $1 each and you may buy as many as you wish. Bingo will continue until the goodies are all gone.

Scouts from Troop 256 who completed in this year's Klondike Derby

The day started at minus 4 below, the weather couldn't have been better for a Klondike Derby.

Two young Bluffton Boy Scout Troop 256 teams scored well against generally older competition at the annual Camp Berry Klondike Derby on Jan. 22.

Fifty-seven teams entered the derby. Bluffton's teams, the "Pit Vipers" finished 39th, and the "Fire Extinguishers" finished 45th. Bluffton teams included scouts aged 11-13, who did very well for their age.

A discussion of Greg Mortenson's book "Stones into Schools" will take place in the family room of Maple Crest Senior Living Village on Monday, Feb. 28, at 2:30 p.m.
