Senior high youth of First Mennonite Church are collecting ink and toner cartridges for recycling at Cartridge World during the 2011-12 school yar.

For each ink jet cartridge turned in the youth receive $1. For each toner cartridge turned in the youth receive $3. Cartridges may be placed in a blue and yellow box outside the church office.

A few weeks ago, Mr. Frog showed up in our backyard. He very quickly made himself at home in our goldfish pond. I wonder what the goldfish think of him.

He sometimes hops out to sit at the edge of the pond, usually hiding among the leaves of the water plants. Of course, as soon as a human approaches, he plops back into the water.

Looking for something new and interesting to read? Then be sure to read "The Dressmaker of Khair Khana" by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon, and attend a discussion of this recent New York Times bestseller on Wednesday, Sept.7, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Common Grounds Coffeehouse & Caf'e in Bluffton.

"The Dressmaker of Khair Khana" is a true story about five sisters in Afghanistan making a life for themselves despite the hardships of living under the Taliban.

St. John's United Church of Christ will hold an ice cream social from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 7, at the church. The event is hosted by the Evangelism Committee.

The menu includes homemade ice cream, homemade fruit pies, Sara's hot meat sandwiches, hotdogs and potato chips. The event is open to the public.

Bluffton junior high and high school youth are invited to an End of Summer Youth Blast Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Presbyterian Church on Main Street.

High school and junior high youth are invited to join in on pizza, games and a movie on the lawn. Cost is $2 per person or $5 for three or more youth from the same family. All high school youth (from youth entering sixth grade on up) are invited to this event, so tell all of your friends.

Bluffton Police Department Public Docket

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce has announced its September programming. The 2011-12 program will begin on Friday, Sept. 9, with the first of nine or possibly 10 monthly breakfasts.

Bluffton native and Allen County Common Pleas Judge Richard Warren is the kickoff speaker for the 2011-12. The first meeting of the season is Friday, Sept. 9, in the third floor of the town hall. Richland Manor will provide breakfasts again. Breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. The program begins at 7:30 a.m.
