Betty Kathryn Wirt, 87, died on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 9:05 p.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.
She was born on April 2, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pa., to William and Elizabeth (Hasson) Knox and they preceded her in death. On May 15, 1946 she married Merle E. Wirt and he died on November 1, 2010.
In the meantime, we are shoveling snow from our driveways and sidewalks. We are canceling events and wondering if winter will end.

Southgate Lanes and Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to sponsor a Business Bowling Scramble on Saturday, April 12, at the bowling alley, 9700 N. Dixie Highway, Bluffton.
“The event is a fundraiser for the chamber’s fireworks project,” said Derek Dukes of the bowling alley. “Ten four-person teams will compete in the evenings scramble. Bowling begins at 5 p.m.”
The winning team receives:
• Southgate posts a 3 by 5 foot advertisement on its wall naming the winning
business.
• A traveling trophy goes the winning business.

Trinity’s Lenten Service is canceled for tonight, Wednesday, March 12.
Looking ahead to next week, a third week Lenten Service will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 19.
Pastor Ken Engdahl of Grace Lutheran Church, Kenton, will preach on “The Garden of Proclamation” from Mark 4:26-29 as the Lenten series, “From Garden to Glory” continues.
Donald D. Wherly, 78, died March 12, 2014, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. He was born February 17, 1936, in Putnam County to the late Rolla and Myrtle (Cherry) Wherly. On April 22, 1966, he married Jean A. Moser Schaller and she survives.
Mr. Wherly had been a self-employed farmer. He and his wife owned and operated Wherly's Farm Market. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Findlay, and the Bluffton Flying Club. He was active in the Pandora Tennis Club. Survivors also include a sister, Shirley Kline of Mt. Cory.
The Bluffton University baseball team took advantage of a Wilmington error in the first inning, plating an unearned run that turned out to be all the Beavers would need as three Bluffton hurlers combined to toss a three-hitter in a 7-0 shutout on Tuesday, March 11 at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio. The Beavers improved to 6-4 with their fourth straight victory, while Wilmington stayed winless at 0-9 on the season.
The Delphos Postal Museum, 339 N. Main St., Delphos, will host this month’s Lincoln Highway Association Western Ohio Chapter meeting. The meeting is Tuesday, March 18. A buffet dinner will be served at 6 p.m.. After the meal, guests will tour the Museum. The public is invited. Please RSVP to (419) 303-5482 for number attending the meal.
The Beaverdam-Richland Township Fire and EMS Departments will hold its annual chicken barbecue/rib dinner at 4 p.m., Saturday, March 22, at the fire station in Beaverdam.
Tickets are pre-sale and are available from any member. The chicken dinners are $7 each and rib dinners $10 each.
Meals are available for drive-thru carryout or eat in the station.
