What do a python (named Neo), a chinchilla (Parcours) and an elongated tortoise (Felix) have in common?  

They were all the live part of an “Endangered Species” program by Nicole of the Toledo Zoo, for the Maple Crest men’s banquet on June 19.

Mary Margaret Arthur, 87, died at 1:45 p.m. June 20, 2014, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. She was born April 10, 1927, in Lima to the late Raymond and LaDonna (Williams) Zimmerman. On Dec. 21, 1947, she married Melvyn C. Arthur and he died June 12, 2014.

Mrs. Arthur was a retired teacher. She taught at Beaverdam, Moulton and Pandora-Gilboa schools. She had also worked at City Loan in Lima.  She graduated from Beaverdam High School and Ohio Northern University.

I want to thank all the persons who entertained us at the 2014 Relay for Life. The persons who met teach month through out the year deserve a huge praise. Linda Best, Jerry, John,Kathy and Don, Diiane, Nick, Sherry, Sheree Joan Chase Bank, and Carol. Thank you seems so small but you are angels on earth!

The rainy weather skirted Bluffton on Friday, June 20, allowing the local Relay for Life event to be held at the university stadium.  While the final amount raised will not be formally announced for several weeks, it is anticipated that over $20,000 will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Rev. Mark Fuerstenau has accepted the pastorate of the Pleasant View and Mount Cory United Methodist Churches.

He comes from Middle Point and Kossuth United Methodist Churches. His wife, DJ, retired this summer after almost nine years serving the Zion United Methodist in the Delphos/Elida area.

Rev. Fuerstenau is a retired teacher and has worked in the corrections field since moving to the Delphos area.

Several Bluffton High School athletes were named Northwest Conference Scholar Athletes for the spring sports season.  The criteria for being selected are as follows:

•  Earned a varsity letter during the spring sports season.
•  Earned a minimum 3.00 GPA during the grading period of the sport.

The United Way of Bluffton, Beaverdam, and Richland Township would like to thank all the local individuals, families, and businesses that helped make our 2014 campaign year a success, we met our goal of $24,500 in donations. 

Mary Arthur, 87 died at 1:45 p.m. June 20, 2014, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Gilboa United Methodist Church. 

Visitation will be Monday from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. Arrangements are incomplete at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Terry H. Miller, 75, died on June 18, 2014 at 2:20 p.m. at his residence. He was born November 11, 1938 in Allen County to the late Harold and Irene Bowers Miller.

Terry was retired from Van Wert Chrysler.  He was a member of Cairo United Methodist Church, Sager Masonic Lodge No. 513, Lafayette, 32nd Degree Valley of Toledo, Zenobia Shrine, Toledo, Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 370, Lima, and a graduate of Beaverdam High School.
