Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has awarded a $30,000 grant to the Putnam Soil Water Conservation District (PSWCD) to fund the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership watershed’s coordinator’s position through July 2016.

That announcement is part of the Watershed Partnership’s summer-fall newsletter, now on The Icon.

The newsletter includes several items of interest to Bluffton, relating to Riley Creek.

Three Bluffton seventh graders are winners in the 2015-16 Bluffton Lions Club peace poster contest.

The students are:
• Louise Dunlap, first
• Olivia Barnes, second
• Ayden McDougle, third

This year's theme "Share Peace," was open to students ages 11,12 or 13. Each poster was judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme. Winning posters advance to the district level judging.

An election day dinner takes place Tuesday, Nov. 3, at First United Methodist Church, Bluffton, 116 Church St. (across from elementary school).

Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dinner is served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

• Beverages 50 cents

The Bluffton Schools once again welcome any citizen interested in walking the hallways during the winter months.  

The Bluffton Elementary and Middle Schools may be used for walking from 6:15 – 7:15 a.m. and 6-7 p.m., beginning Nov. 2. 

Please enter at the main elementary door during these times.  The buildings are open each day when school is in session.

Bertha "Bertie" Evadna Shrider Swank, 100, died Nov. 1, 2015, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. 

Bertie was born April 10, 1915, in Allen County on a farm near Lafayette, Ohio, to Charles and Louisa (Ramga) Shrider who preceded her in death.

On July 8, 1943, she married Frederick Andrew Swank who preceded her in death on April 5, 1978.

BLUFFTON, Ohio -  The Beavers came out ready to fight at their last conference match against the Franklin College Grizzlies on Sunday, Nov. 1. After the recognition of four seniors: outside hitter KENDRA PARMENTER from Grove City, Ohio; middle hitter JENNY BROWN from St. Marys, Ohio; student coach Marissa Krier; and student trainer Sierra Beckford, another conference battle took center stage.
