Bluffton High School track fans have lots to look forward to next season.

Competing in the Division III Ohio High School Athletic Association state track meet in Columbus earlier this month, the boys' team scored 15 points placing 12th overall.

• Trevor Bassitt, junior, won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.53 seconds.

• The 4 by 800-meter relay made up of one senior, two juniors and one sophomore finished fourth in a time of 8:08.15.

Four members of the Bluffton High School softball team received all-NWC honors this spring.

They include Sami Fruchey, senior, first team; Taylor Monday, senior; second team; Averey Rumer, freshman, honorable mention; and Katie Prater, freshman, honorable mention.

In voting by Northwest Conference softball coaches for the 2016 softball season senior Jada Preston, a pitcher from Crestview was named Player of the Year.   Columbus Grove senior Brooke Hoffman finished second in the balloting with Spencerville sophomore Kara May finishing third.

Two Bluffton High School baseball players were named to the all-Northwest Conference second team this spring.

Players were Matt Bowden, junior,  and Dakota Bricker, sophomore.

In voting by Northwest Conference baseball coaches for the 2016 baseball season. senior Damon Egnor, a pitcher from Paulding was named Player of the Year after being runner-up for that honor last season.  

Crestview senior Colby Clifton finished second in the balloting with Delphos Jefferson junior  Jace Stockwell finishing third.

Here are members of the Bluffton High School Hi-Y Club from the 1959-60 school year.

The Hi-Y club was affiliated with the YMCA. The club's purpose was “to create, maintain and extend, throughout the home, school, and community, high standards of Christian character.”

 

Bluffton police apprehended three youths over the weekend after responding to a report of three people entering parked cars in the area of Eastland Drive.

Rick Skilliter, police chief provided the Icon with the following report:

On Friday, June 17, police officers responded to a report of three people entering parked cars in the area of Eastland Drive. The alert citizen called police at 5:05 a.m., with officers arriving within one minute of the initial call.  As officer’s announced themselves to the individuals, the trio separated, running in different directions.

The Hancock County Commissioners, the Hancock Public Health Department and the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership are pleased to announce that the Ohio EPA has awarded a $150,000 grant to help low income families in the county replace/repair failing Home Septic Treatment Systems (HSTS). The grant will start in May 2016 and applies to Hancock County residents.

On Saturday, July 2, and July 9, at 1 p.m at Buckeye Park, the Bluffton Shuffleboard Club will host clinics for anyone interested in learning how to play shuffleboard.  

Clinic instructors are Steve Slaughterbeck and Jim Zink. Some of the topics to be covered include basic strategy, court preparation, shooting form and game rules.

The club encourages everyone to come and join in the fun.

Why do you video tape trains coming through Ada at the Railroad Depot Park?
I've always been interested in trains, ever since growing up in Ada. I now live in Bluffton?
 
What do you do with the tapes?
I edit them and put then online for others to see.

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera, has added an additional service for the summer. 

The Tuesday evening service, beginning at 7:30 p.m., will be a casual, abbreviated copy of the previous Sunday service. 

The Tuesday evening services will be held through Sept. 6.  Everyone is welcome, especially if you are gone over the weekend for work or travel.
