10:06 P.M NOTE: The Bluffton warning siren was activated by Allen County, not by the village. At 9:44 p.m. the Bluffton warning siren alerted residents of heavy rains heading toward Bluffton from the west.

215 riders took this advice on Saturday's Ride to Remember

It's everything you want - and more, in a bike ride.

LOTS OF PHOTOS BELOW -

This year 215 bicycle riders accepted the invite to the third annual Ride to Remember bike ride in Bluffton. Of those, 29 hard-core riders took the 112-mile Gran Fondo.

The ride supports the Bluffton Lions Foundation bike and pedestrian pathway project, which, when completed, will encircle the entire village of Bluffton.

At the County Line Church of the Brethren car show

Story and photos by Monty Siekerman - Ada Icon
Did you ever see a dinosaur at a car show?

Some of the cars at the County Line Church of the Brethren on Saturday dated back to 1929, but not to the age of the Giant Monsters. However, Bryan Counts of Spencerville is really into dinosaurs as is evident on the inside and outside of his 1977 Ford. (See his photo at bottom of story)

(This is just a hunch)

Thanks, Marlin Gerber. The Icon and half of Bluffton now has lots of blueberries in the freezer.

We don’t know Marlin’s favorite blueberry pie recipe, so we made one up in his honor. It’s pretty easy to create. Here's what you do:

• Turn over to 400 degrees

• Pie crust (buy it or make it – your call)

1 ½ cup yogurt
¼ cup sugar
1 teaspoon corn starch
1 egg
2 teaspoons lime juice (okay, lemon if you must)
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups of blueberries (depends upon the size of your pie dish)

Icon viewers:

Thank you to the Bluffton Lions Club, the numerous volunteers, and the
sponsors who made the "Ride to Remember" day a wonderful experience.

The check-in workers, snack providers, and support team all greeted us with smiles
and words of encouragement plus we enjoyed the camaraderie from the other
riders.

We look forward to riding in it again next year.

The company produced 200,000 dozen gloves annually at its height

Boss Glove Factory
1907 – 1956

The Boss Glove Co., started in 1907 and ceasing operations in Bluffton in 1956, manufactured gloves and mittens of many kinds and for many uses.

From 1907 to approximately 1928 production of mittens used for jerking corn made up the entire output of the company.

The Icon spotted this plate on Main Street, Bluffton. It's a Hancock County plate that you'll find on a dark red Sonata.

Just when you think you know everything there is to know about Bluffton, a photograph like this shows up.

Ask your grandparents to explain this.  If they can’t help, keep reading.

It’s a photograph of the "floating" pool that served swimmers in Bluffton as early as the mid-to-late 1920s (based upon the style of swim suit in the photo) to the early 1950s.

It was constructed on the east bank of the Buckeye and then was moved to the quarry where it floated to allow swimming.

Choice One holds second public meeting on State Route 103 corridor study

Although it sounds like a very long way off, it is possible that in 2022 two separate projects from the current State Route 103 corridor study could get underway.

Choice One Engineering hosted the second public meeting on July 6 of its corridor study. The entire project is still in the early planning stages.

The study was funded by $50,000 from Allen County Regional Planning and $15,420 from the Village of Bluffton.

The study considered points on State Route 103 from the Norfolk Southern Railroad to Pocono Drive on the east side of the interstate.
