The Ohio Northern University Observatory will be open to the public on Friday, March 22 from 9 - 11 p.m. to observe the Vernal Equinox, according to Dr. Jason Pinkney, of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. This event marks the astronomical first day of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
The precise time of the equinox is Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at 5:58 P.M. EDT, but the night sky will be the same on March 22.
The Concert Choir of Michigan Lutheran Seminary, Saginaw, Michigan, will present a concert of sacred songs at Trinity Lutheran Church , 301 N. Main St., Jenera, on Monday, March 25, at 1 p.m.
The 38-voice traveling singers, under the direction of Professor Leonard A. Proeber, have toured annually since 1955, with appearances in more than 30 states, Canada, and Europe.
This choir, which will sing over 30 concerts during the 2018-2019 season, regularly visits congregations of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod in Michigan and adjoining states.
The Ohio Development Services Agency and the Area Agency on Aging 3 want to remind Ohioans that assistance is available to help with their home energy bills. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides Ohioans at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty level with a benefit to help pay their heating bills.
Verla Ernestine Diller, 93, died on Monday, March 18, 2019, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
Verla was born to Vearl and Eva (DeHart) Kitt on Feb.27, 1926, on the family farm in Wauneta, Nebraska, on the South Divide.
Verla graduated Wauneta High School in 1945. She married Doyle Ralph Carpenter, Aug. 30, 1945. Two daughters, Josephine and Delores were born to this union. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1965. Verla returned to school earning her LPN degree and license, in 1966. She served the Mennonite Memorial Home for the next 29 years.
William "Bill" Allen Frideger II, 45, died March 19, 2019, at his residence. Bill was born March 16, 1974, in St. Marys, Ohio, to William and Maria "Angie" (Franco) Frideger. On May 11, 2002, he married Amy Dues Frideger who survives.
Bill graduated from St. Marys Memorial High School. He also had attended Lima Technical College. Bill worked at Procter and Gamble in the engineering department as a controller. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bluffton.

The Bluffton Music Boosters annual chicken barbecue-shrimp dinner and concert is Friday, March 22, at the Bluffton Middle School.
Fourteen music groups from fourth grade to BHS seniors are on the program from 4 p.m. on. Groups are directed by Alice Basinger, elementary; Rachael Lewis, orchestra; David Sycks, band; and Kara Zink, choir.
This year’s menu includes barbecue chicken or shrimp dinners at $8 each. Tickets are on sale in advance at the middle school office.

One senior, nine juniors and 22 sophomores are this year's inductees in the Bluffton High School National Honor Society, according to Jamie Erford, NHS advisor.

The Village of Bluffton is accepting applications for the positions of assistant manager and lifeguard for the Community Swimming Pool for the 2019 season.
Qualified candidates for lifeguards must have or be in the process of obtaining CPR and lifeguard certifications.
Applications can be obtained at the Blufton town hall, 154 N. Main St., Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
Completed applications are due at the Town Hall by 5 p.m. Friday, April 19.
County Line Church of the Brethren will hold a college day event from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 13, at the church, 4227 N. Hardin Road (corner Sandusky and County Line Road).
