"Lillian Boxfish takes a walk" by Kathleen Rooney

The library's book discussion club will have a Skype visit by author Kathleen Rooney as part of their discussion of "Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk" on Wednesday, June 5 at noon. This discussion, open to the public, will be held in the lower level meeting room at the library.

Some copies of each month's book selection are available for checkout previous to each book discussion. The group meets the first Wednesday of every month.

I-75 restricted to one lane both ways between SR 235 and Allen County line

Several ODOT road work projects will affect local traffic patterns soon.

Interstate 75 between state Route 235 and the Allen County line will be restricted to one lane in both directions through the work zone for pavement repairs.

The following one-day ramp closure will be associated with the project. Work is being performed by the ODOT Hancock County maintenance garage.

Entrance ramp from state Route 103 to Interstate 75 southbound, Bluffton, will be closed during daytime hours Friday, May 31, for pavement repairs.

Bluffton HS honors student history

Later today, Saturday, May 25, Bluffton High School (BHS) will hold its 138th commencement. There are 9 valedictorians and 1 salutorian in the graduating class of 2019.

For many people, spring is the beginning of baseball and softball season.

Whether you or your loved one play in an organized sport or an informal club, it is important to be mindful of the effects these sports can have on the body. Specifically, sore arms are a common health-related issue baseball and softball players face, especially pitchers.

Throughout the season, players’ throwing arms are placed under a large amount of stress, which causes soreness to occur.

Jean Delores Braden, 85, of Bluffton and formerly of Port Clinton, Ohio, died May 23, 2019, at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton.  Jean was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Suffern, New York, to the late Robert Thomas and Della Margaret (Wannemacher) Hearn.  On Sept. 28, 1952 she married Robert Braden who survives.

Jean graduated from Spring Valley High School in Spring Valley, New York.  She was a homemaker.  Jean was a member of Saddle River Reformed Church in Saddle River, New Jersey and attended Faith Christian Church in Lima.

The Bluffton Junior High string orchestra earned a ‘Superior’ rating and the Bluffton fith-sixth grade string orchestra earned an ‘Excellent’ rating at Ohio Music Education Associate large group adjudicated event held at Parkway HS last week.

The junior high orchestra performed in class “A” with “An English Folksong” arranged by Terry McQuilkin, “Lullaby to the Moon” by Brian Balmages and “The Lumber Camp Song” arranged by Carrie Lane Gruselle.

The 138th annual Bluffton High School commencement is Saturday, May 25, in the high school gym. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the ceremony takes place at 7 p.m.

This year’s valedictorians are Seth Andreas, Madeline Burghaze, Kennedy Coughlan, Rhett Donaldson, Amelia Mitchell, Katie Prater, Lily Shadle, Amanda Speicher and Hannah Yost. The class salutatorian is Jackson Steinmetz.

Manchester University conferred undergraduate, professional and graduate degrees to 331 student on Saturday, May 18.

Mariah Fleming, of Bluffton, received her Bachelor of Arts in sociology.
