The answer is nearly 100 years old

Why is the Bluffton football field called Harmon Field?

The answer is nearly 100 years old.

The Harmon Field we know today was originally intended to be a playground in the early 1920s. And, it soon grew from a playground to include a football field and much more.

It was one of a number of such parks in Ohio established by William E. Harmon, New York philanthropist, who was a native of Lebanon, Ohio.

A pandemic that has people fearful, neighbors arguing and everyone forced to socially isolate. Watching a volatile market take staccato breaths while playing with our life savings and retirement.

Despite the restrictions that the corona virus has put on many of our regular activities, the butterfly project at Maple Crest has been thriving as usual this summer.

The only exception is that the only people who are privileged to visit the project this summer are the Maple Crest independent living residents and staff.

For those readers who have not heard of our ongoing summer project (one that began at Maple Crest way back in 2007) let me fill you in.

It was nice to read about the "old swimming hole" on Riley Creek. My brothers Russell and Jim and some local friends spent a lot of days in the water just before the dam.  I appreciate keeping up with the Bluffton Icon. We lived at 327 Cherry St. and then moved to Colorado in 1953.

Thanks forthe memory.
