BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School girls tennis team prevailed in its home opener against visiting Defiance and the weather by posting an exciting 3-2 comeback victory on Tuesday, August 12.
The first win of the season upped the Bluffton record to 1-1 this season.
“What a way to open the home season,” said Pirate head coach Trisha Nieman. “Our team came ready to fight, and they brought home the victory in front of the home crowd.”

On Monday, August 11, Pat Rodabaugh addressed Village of Bluffton council members, presenting an overview of opportunities as well as plans for events and activities including a 4th of July parade.

CELINA__The visiting Bluffton High School girls tennis team served up its dual match season opener Monday, August 11 at Celina with a tough 5-0 loss.
The loss dropped Bluffton to 0-1 on the young season.
Senior Hannah Nieman was forced to retire and default early in her first singles match due to a recurring shoulder injury after a 6-0 opening set defeat.
Junior Kate Klinger lost to Katie Guingrich 6-1, 6-0 at second singles.
At third singles, Pirate junior Ari Bowling fell 6-2, 6-1 to Bulldog Larissa Jackson.
LIMA __The Bluffton High School boys golf team finished a strong second at the 14-team Bluffton Pirate invitational tournament on Lima’s Hidden Creek Golf Course on Monday, August 11.
Pirate Nick Lovett sizzled on the hot day, earning tournament medalist honors with a low round of 34-36=70. Teammate Grady Coonfare finished in a four-way tie for eighth place with a strong round of 38-41=79.

In years past the Icon has attempted to interview Lieutenant Matt Oglesbee of the Bluffton Police Department on National Night Out, probably his busiest night of the year. For 2025, we gave him the following questions as a followup report.
Q. How long have you been organizing this event in Bluffton?
Colletta Irene Mullenhour, 94, passed away August 9, 2025 at her residence. Colletta was born January 21, 1931 in Bluffton to the late Menno and Geneva (Patterson) Badertscher. On December 18, 1949 she married Roger Mullenhour who preceded her in death on April 21, 2001.
AUG 11 MEDIA RELEASE__The Findlay Community Orchestra will begin rehearsal on September 9. Membership is open to anyone interested in playing a string instrument. Some previous experience is required, like participation on orchestra in high school/ college/church.
The orchestra will meet weekly from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Great Room at First Presbyterian Church, 2330 S Main St., Findlay.
