A Cherry Street railroad crossing upgrade is underway this week. The time is up on the crossing guards originally installed in the 1930s or 1940s. The gates once stopped traffic for fast moving Nickel Plate Road freight pulled by Lima-built steam locomotives, and for passenger trains on their way from Cleveland to St. Louis.
