Swiss Community Historical Society update

The Swiss Community Historical Society is pleased to announce that scheduled tours will resume from May through fall of 2022. The Swiss Homestead, also known as the Schumacher House, offers a glimpse into the lives of Swiss immigrants in portions of Allen and Putnam counties known as the Settlement, during the mid-19th century. The house is located at 8350 Bixel Rd, Bluffton.

Visitors may tour the house, summer kitchen, and workshop—which are furnished with original and period items—as well as the kitchen garden. Access to the barn may be restricted due to construction activity.

Treva Marlene Stratton, 91, passed away April 26, 2022, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. Treva was born February 19, 1931 in Bluffton, to the late William and Rhoda (Burkholder) Althaus.  On August 9, 1953 she married Robert Stratton who preceded her in death on November 28, 2019. 

On April 26 the Bluffton High School track and field teams particpated in a quad meet at Ada. Teams from Fort Jennings and Ben Logan rounded out the competition.

Led by strong efforts in the field events, the Bluffton boys took first place, while the girls took second place.

The Pirates travel to Liberty-Benton on Saturday, April 30, to compete in the Pat Wagner Invitational.

This Saturday, April 30 is National Drug Take Back Day–a reminder to go through your medicine cabinet and remove expired and unused medications in a safe and secure way. Mercy Health–St. Rita’s has a 24/7 accessible drug take back bin in the Emergency Department waiting room.

The visiting Bluffton High School baseball team shut out non-conference rival Cory-Rawson 5-0 on a cold, Tuesday evening, April 26.

The Pirates improved to 3-9 after the win, while Cory fell to 1-6 with the defeat.

Bluffton visits Spencerville (1-11, 1-2 NWC) Thursday, then hosts Delphos Jefferson (4-9, 2-2 NWC) Friday in a makeup game.

Monday's rainout vs. Lincolnview (9-3, 4-0 NWC) will be made up at home May 11.
