Twenty-five to thirty Bluffton early birds strike while the peanut brittle is hot on Monday mornings in November. Volunteers fill the Bluffton Senior Center kitchen to make some 150 pounds per week as a fundraiser.
There are five stations: 1) the molten brittle boilers, 2) the hot brittle spreaders, 3) brittle breakers, 4) the brittle coolers and 5) brittle weighers and baggers. The video below shows the extremely hot sugar and peanut mixture being poured, turned and spread on trays.
During my time as chaplain at Mennonite Memorial Home for 24 years, I met a number of residents who were veterans, mostly from World War II. I don't remember all their names, but I remember their stories.
Rolling and brushing of the new artificial turf practice field at the Bluffton Schools were underway on Monday, November 17. The field has a 40-yard midfield line and a big Bluffton Pirate at the center. While the field looks temptingly close to being ready, there are still some elements to be installed. This Thursday, November 20 is the last official meeting of Women in Business for 2025. The event is at 7 p.m. on the third floor on Town Hall, where the group will gather over cookies to hear and learn from each other.
The program is all about your business and what you care to share. Each participant has up to 3 minutes to talk about whatever they care to share about themselves and their business.
Organizers note that this gathering directly after the Jingle Bell Stroll: "Hope you can still make it, after enjoying the local shopping experience."
Sue Ellen Sandy, 68, passed away on November 15, 2025, at Vancrest of Delphos. Sue was born on March 18, 1957, in Lima. Her parents, Lloyd and Mary (Mayor) Klett, preceded her in death.
Sue worked at International Brake in Lima. Although not a member, she would faithfully watch Lima Baptist Temple's services every Sunday. After retirement, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching football, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes.
