The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation Board of Trustees approved grants totaling $581,949 at the September board meeting. This total includes seven responsive grants, two president’s discretionary grants and 51 donor advised fund grants. 

Responsive Grants 

Responsive grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that seek to meet community needs and  match the goals, objectives and priorities of The Community Foundation. Grantseekers must  submit a written grant proposal for consideration. Applications are reviewed four times per year. 

In November 2020, with the state of Ohio heading towards a COVID hospitalization peak of 5,308 (December 15 daily count, Ohio Hospital Association), the Bluffton Icon talked with Dr. William Kose about how individuals can prevent spread of the virus. Kose is an internist in Findlay, Ohio and Vice President for Special Projects at Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS).

This week we talked with Dr. Kose about the current surge. On September 27 the state of Ohio had a daily count of 3,742 COVID patients hospitalized, the highest such count since the introduction of COVID vaccines.

The Bluffton University men shot a respectable 321 on day one of the HCAC Preview at Miami Whitewater Forest on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021. Bluffton is currently in 6th place, just 11 strokes behind 2nd place Rose-Hulman (310).

Leading the way was senior Dominic Castelvetere (Ontario) who stands 16th overall after firing a 78 on Saturday. Juniors Clay Quellhorst (St. Marys/Memorial) and Nathan Eberle (Grove City) are two strokes back with identical scores of 80 heading into round two. 

The Bluffton University football team led 14-10 with less than two minutes to play in the first half before Mt. St. Joseph turned it around with three straight touchdowns en-route to a 45-27 victory on Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021. Bluffton slipped to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference on a day when the 2000 Beaver football team was honored for their HCAC title.

The Beavers dropped a pair of four-setters to Transylvania and Trine on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, During Homecoming weekend. Bluffton fell to 8-12 overall and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference. 

Transylvania took the first two sets convincingly before Bluffton showed out with a 25-18 victory in set three. The visitors fired back with a 25-20 win to take the Heartland Conference lidlifter for both teams.
