July is a busy month at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. Here is a list of events planned.

The July newsletter is an attachment at the bottom of this story.

Future Olympians

BFR held a mini-Olympic camp earlier this week. Here campers learn about archery. Phil Newland, instructor, shows an arrow to campers, from left, Lilly Campbell, Julia Smallcomb, Olivia Smallcomb, Dalton Clum, Blake Clum (in second row), and Levi Hohenbrink.

Children ages 2-6 years will combine sport activities and swim lessons

through the Gym and Swim program at BFR, according to Carole Enneking, BFR director.

The program will meet on Mondays, July 9, 16, 30, Aug. 6, and 13 from 4:30-5:50 p.m.

The program meets at BFR for parent-child skill activities, then move to the Bluffton Community Pool for a swim lesson.

A parent/adult is required to work with each child both in the gym and swimmming pool. Instructor of the program is Kelly Honse, BFR swim staff.

Fireworks from a previous Freedom Fest'

The Bluffton Lions Foundation invites the public to attend the eighth annual Freedom Fest on Saturday, June 30, at the Bluffton University football stadium.

The event kicks off at 5 p.m. with games and inflatables for the kids and hotdogs, popcorn and homemade ice cream for the whole family.

Scheduled entertainment includes Dancers' Elite at 5 p.m. and 5 Miles High beginning at 6 p.m. Live duck races will run throughout the evening and the event culminates with a fireworks show at dusk.

If you've ever entered The Bluffton Icon high school, college or NFL football contests, you realize that it's three yards and a cloud of dust, week after week.

Although it is hardly July, The Icon is working on this fall's contest - call it the dream stage.

We'd like to hear from contestants on ways we could make the contests more interesting. One thing for certain is that our tie-breakers need repair. But, beside that, if you could create a weekly football contest, how would you do it?

Several high school band camps will take place at Bluffton University in July and August. Here's the schedule:

Gibsonburg - July 9-12
Toledo St. John's - July 15-20
Delphos St. John's - July 16-20
Edison - July 15-20
Keystone - July 21 -26
Bellefontaine - July 23-27
Arcanum - July 29-Aug. 3
Willard - July 29 - Aug. 3
Vandalia-Butler - July 30-Aug. 3
