Volunteer reception at Ebenezer Mennonite Church

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio honors its many volunteers during a late March volunteer reception at Ebenezer Mennonite Church.

According to Mary Ann Ring, director of volunteers for MHCO, during 2011 more than 240 volunteers contributed over 6,000 hours of time.

"At the annual MHCO Volunteer Reception, we celebrate all volunteers," said Ring. Volunteers assist at all MHCO campuses including Mennonite Memorial Home and Maple Crest Senior Living Village.

Jane Kurtz inherited a love of reading from her parents and grandparents, and she has passed it on, not only to her children-and now grandchildren-but also to people she doesn't even know.

Kurtz, a writer, has done it through her children's books, many of them set in Ethiopia, where she grew up. She has also shared her passion through Ethiopia Reads, a nonprofit effort to get books to, and create libraries in, the East African nation.

A limited number of tickets remain for "Mark Nizer 3-D," the final performance in the 2011-12 Bluffton University Artist Series, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Nizer makes the impossible possible while incorporating 3-D technology into a live show that combines world-class juggling, comedy, movement and music. Interactive video creates lasers jumping out over the audience, robots performing onstage and neon balls playing live music while creating a unique 3-D world that changes with every note.

Bluffton University will recognize its top student-athletes at the annual Athletics Awards Forum, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Judson Laipply, a 1998 Bluffton graduate and creator of the viral video, "The Evolution of Dance," will be the guest speaker at the event, which is free and open to the public.

The Bluffton University art department will present its 45th annual Juried Student Exhibition from April 16-May 5 in the Grace Albrecht Gallery in Sauder Visual Arts Center. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will showcase work created this academic year by students in university art classes or supervised independent studies.
