In less than a year, Martin Chaffee, a leadership consultant from Clarkston, Mich., has gone from sedentary to serious runner, now training for a half marathon after having run 5-, 8- and 10-kilometer races.

He has done it using an eight-step model for positive change-of any personal or organizational kind-that he will present Friday, Feb. 24, at a Bluffton University workshop with his son Andy, a Bluffton senior and distance runner on its cross country and track teams.

Jan. 2
-A Jackson St. resident reported that an unknown person had stolen a trailer from her residence.
-Officers responded to a non-injury traffic crash at the intersection of S.R. 103 and County Line Rd. Todd Marshall, 40, Bluffton was cited for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device and that case is pending in Bluffton Mayor's Court.
-Police responded to a hit-skip traffic crash in the parking lot of a S.R. 103 business.

It's a certain sign of spring - grinding at the Spring Street recycling center is planned for later this month. According to Jamie Mehaffie, Bluffton village administrator, double-grinding of material at the dump will start on Feb. 20. He said that the grinding should take about 35 hours to complete.

Mehaffie also reported that so far this winter the village has purchased 67 tons of salt and 200 tons are in reserve.

Four senior girls have been recognized by Bluffton High School as students of the month for October, November, December and January.

Jenna Buroker is October's student of the month. She is a member of Art Club, Show Choir, National Honor Society, Northwest Conference Sportsmanship Committee and Bible study. She has participated in volleyball at BHS. She maintains a 3.935 grade point average.
