Warm then cold

This was the scene in Bluffton on Monday. Tuesday, the weather changed, however, and colder temperatures prevailed.

Former Bluffton resident David J. Rempel Smucker has published a biography of his grandfather, Boyd D. Smucker, who also once lived in Bluffton.

The book, titled "Bid Me Discourse," has as its subtitle: "Boyd David Smucker (1878-1936) Orator and Mennonite Educator." Boyd Smucker was a student and a professor at Goshen College in Indiana and a professor at Bluffton College, teaching oratory, presenting recitations, directing dramas, coaching debates, raising funds and recruiting students.

The Dough Hook, 117 N. Main St., Bluffton has a quarter of beef package and a beef and pork package that offers considerable savings to customers.

The quarter of beef package includes:

18 pounds of bulk ground sirloin
12 pounds of ground sirloin patties
18 pounds of roast
7 pounds of round steak

The Bluffton school board accepted the resignation of Jim Raabe on March 21. Raabe has been with the school system for 30 years and will retire effective June 2. He has taught accounting at Bluffton High School and served as the high school athletic director.

Friday, March 25, is the annual Bluffton Music Boosters chicken barbecue at the Bluffton Middle School. Tickets may be ordered now. Tickets are $7 each.
