Effective October 1, 2021, I am the full-time editor-owner of the Bluffton and Ada Icons. In following founder Fred Steiner, I know that I have big shoes to fill. Fred took a big leap when he created the Bluffton Icon in 2009 and, in 2012, the Ada Icon. My leap from employee to self-employed is much, much smaller. I’m inheriting some 20,000 monthly viewers of Bluffton area news and some 8,500 monthly viewers of Ada area news.
I’m also resting on the shoulders of Icon tech master and interim owner Ryan Lowry, who is still the wizard who keeps the online magic working.
The Bluffton Public Library is taking reservations for four history walks down Bluffton’s Main Street, showing how the business district appeared in 1950. The walks take place on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 4 and 5. Reservations are required.
Led by Fred Steiner, each walk will focus on nearly 35 storefronts and their business owners as they existed more than 70 years ago. The tours cover businesses and buildings on both sides of Main Street from Cherry Street to Elm Street.
The Ada boys soccer team lost at home 8-2 to state-ranked Northwest Conference rival Bluffton Tuesday night, September 28, at War Memorial Stadium.
The Bulldogs dropped to 3-5-3 overall and 0-2-1 in NWC play with the defeat. The Pirates, 10th in the Div. III state rankings, improved to 8-2 and 3-0 in the NWC with the win.
The six-time defending NWC champion Pirates have won 33 league matches in a row.
