Songs of the martyrs will highlight Anabaptist stories during performance at Bluffton

Bluffton University will host “Grace to You and Peace: Voices of the Martyrs,” by Wendy Chappell-Dick and the Anabaptist singers at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, in Yoder Recital Hall.

The concert will present the direct words and hymns of Anabaptist martyrs through contemporary song settings. Just as the founders of the Mennonite faith used well-known secular tunes to share their message, Chappell-Dick uses musical genres from English folk songs to 80s Rock and Roll to give new layers of meaning to the texts from the 1500s.

Bluffton University business students jumpstarted their career search during the Employer Expo networking event held on campus Sept. 27.

“At this event, students are able to interact with representatives from companies in the area that are actively looking to hire interns and full-time employees. The interactions are a great learning experience that they don’t get in the classroom,” said John Burkhart, assistant professor of accounting.

The goldenrod is yellow, the corn is turning brown, the trees in apple orchards with fruit are bending down. So writes poet Helen Hunt Jackson. Bluffton's corn is turning, as evident of this field at the corner of Tom Fett and Grove Road. Soon, it will be a barren field.
