Emmanuel United Church of Christ will hold an ice cream social from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 4, at the church.

The menu includes chicken or sloppy joe sandwiches, chicken noodles, baked beans, a variety of salads, pies, pluse ice cream and beverages.

Tickets are $8 adults, $4 children 10 and under.

The church is located at 8375 Phillips Road, Bluffton

Grant money available to replace or repair failing systems

Working with the Hancock Public Health Department and the Hancock County Commissioners, the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership is helping to implement a $150,000 grant from the Ohio EPA to repair or replace failing home septic treatment systems (HSTS) in Hancock County.

The second and final year of the grant is 2017, according to Phil Martin of the watershed partnership.

He said, "There is only around $40,000 remaining in the grant. Depending on a family’s income, the family may be eligible for up to 100% coverage to repair or replace your system."

Award recognizes NWC school with highest level of consistency in sports competition

Bluffton and Columbus Grove tied for the Northwest Conference 2016-17 “Don Bachman Award of Excellence".  The tie puts both schools at the top of the conference standings for the third time each, according to Jim Raabe, NWC commissioner.

This award recognizes the school in the conference that exhibits the highest level of consistent excellence in conference-sponsored sports and scholastic bowl competition each school year.
