Teams are forming and partnerships and sponsors are lining up for this summer’s Bluffton Community Olympics set for Saturday, July 30. Team sign-up deadline is May 31.
Berch Carpenter assists two residents with their tax preparation at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. The free service is offered by American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) volunteers who are at the Center on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Senior citizens interested in this service must make an appointment by calling the center at 419-358-8971.
Challenge Champions Equestrian Center, Ottawa, hosts a 5K obstacle mud run on Saturday, June 4, and is seeking sponsors for the event.
Sponsor levels include:
• Blue ribbon sponsor - $200 donation, will include your name or company name on the event T-shirt and signage.
• Grand champion sponsor - $400 donations, will place your business name on T-shirts, signage and spectator passes and a feature radio ad spot.
Challenged Champion Equestrian Center is located at 11913 Road 6, Ottawa, and carries several connections to the Bluffton community.

March 15 precinct results reveal interesting trends of Bluffton, Beaverdam and Richland Township voters.
For example, if Bluffton voters for president had their way it would be Kasich versus Sanders in November. If Richland Township voters had their way it would be a toss up between Clinton and Sanders versus Kasich. If Beaverdam voters had their way it would be a Clinton-Sanders toss up versus Trump.
School district voters were in near total agreement on the school levy and library levy, with each passing in the 70 percentile figure.
Bluffton
Donald "Darold" Russell Thompson, 79, died March 16, 2016, at 2:46 p.m. at Bluffton Hospital. Donald was born Oct. 16, 1936 in Maysville, Ohio to the late Homer and Mabel (Irlgen) Thompson. On June 28, 1959, he married Elaine Basinger Thompson who survives.
Donald retired from Roundy's, Lima as a maintenance man. After retirement, he worked as a mower for the Village of Bluffton. He had been the fire chief for the Beaverdam-Richland Fire Department for many years. He graduated from Cory-Rawson High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
