Dick Boehr, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce member, talks about the 11 persons recognized on April 12 at Maple Crest.

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce recognized 11 long-time Bluffton business owners and family members during a special meeting April 12 at Maple Crest Senior Living Village.

Eleven persons now residents at various Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio campuses were recognized, according to Fred Steiner, chamber CEO.

Richard Boehr, chamber member, provided a brief explanation of each of the recognized person’s business affiliation and presented each one with a certificate of appreciation.

Here are notes from a brief discussion with four third grade boys: Roric Dunifon (Mrs. Kingsley’s class), Kyler Kinn (Bogart), Ian Martz (Armstrong) and Eli Okuley (Raeburn).

 

It might seem that the songs in “Songs for a New World” have nothing in common. For starters, the singers range from a Spanish sailor in 1492 to a jailed civil rights leader—and a fed-up Mrs. Claus with a German accent.

But while it’s true that Bluffton University’s 2013 May Day musical has no continuous plot line—or spoken dialogue—and each song has its own context and characters, there is a common thread, says Dr. Melissa Friesen.

The United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters and Service Technicians will hold its state apprenticeship contest in Lima on April 23, 24, and 25 at the office of UA Local 776 at 1300 Bowman Road behind the Allen County Fairgrounds.

The top apprentices from 15 different locals across Ohio will be competing for top   honors in plumbing, pipefitting, welding, sprinkler fitting and HVAC service. Representing Local 776 in this year’s competition are Matt Chiles-pipefitter, Nathan Chamberlain-welder and Dallas Hoffman-HVAC. 

 

Bluffton University will host its annual Academic Awards Forum at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, in Yoder Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Students to be honored include graduating seniors in the Honors Program, C. Henry Smith Scholars and Pi Delta inductees, as well as departmental award recipients, who are recognized as distinguished senior scholars.
