Dear Icon:
A question in our Latin class (long ago!) was, "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?", or, if I have it right, "Who guards the guardians themselves?". The media have freedom of the press, but the constitutional guarantee is supposed to be for all citizens, not just a special class. How can we be protected from editors who distort things themselves?

Brion and Julie Rhodes took a birthday hot air balloon ride on Aug. 1. With Rick Cusick, Lima, as pilot, they took off from the Maple Crest front lawn and cruised Bluffton at about 1,000 feet. Watch the video.

Pandora resident Judy Clemens is at it again with a release of another one of her mystery books title "Dying Echo." "Dying Echo," a Grim Reaper mystery, is the fourth series following her previous work, "Embrace the Grim Reaper, The Grim Reaper's Dance and Flowers for Her Grave."

According to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer and weather reporter to The Icon, the average July temperature for the Bluffton-Pandora area is 72.8 degrees. This July the average daily temperature was 78.3 degrees.
The maximum temperature was 102 on July 6. The minimum was a cool 56 on July 21 - that's a 46 degree difference. The daily maximum temperature reading in July surpassed 90 13 days. It surpassed 100 on three days.
