Bluffton in the 1950s. Were you there? Tell us about it. Or, tell us who to talk with about it.

The second "Bluffton: A Good Place To Miss" collection of stories is coming together this winter. Its focus is the years when men's ties were as wide as white wall tires: Jan. 1, 1950, to Dec. 31, 1959, to be specific.

Here's the seven-day report for February from Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer.

Date High Low Rain Snow
Feb. 8 35 25
Feb. 9 34 21
Feb. 10 31 23 0.09 2.3
Feb. 11 23 10
Feb. 12 29 15
Feb. 13 35 18

The Blanchard Valley Hospital Auxiliary's Nearly New Shop is accepting donations for their annual prom dress distribution. Items accepted include dresses, shoes and accessories.

The items can be dropped off at the Nearly New Shop, 306 Lima Ave., Findlay, through March 13. After March 13, the dresses, shoes and accessories will be available free of charge to any area teen needing items for prom. One dress per girl will be provided.

There's a new twist to this year's Lion's Club Foundation-Senior Citizens pancake and sausage benefit. This year's benefit offers several door prizes to persons who attend tickets.

The 30th annual benefit is from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 17, at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, 132 N. Main St. Tickets are $6.50 for adults and youth through age 5 are free when accompanied by an adult.

A $2,000 matching gift from an anonymous donor means donations accepted through Feb. 19 continue to make a major impact in the Maple Crest Memory Garden and Pier Project, according to Daren Lee, director of marketing of Maple Crest Senior Living Villages, Bluffton.

On Feb. 11 Maple Crest held a pancake breakfast fundraiser to launch its Memory Garden project. From that event over $1,300 was raised by the more than 200 persons in attendance who enjoyed nearly 900 pancakes.
